11 things we loved this weekend: Kaka, Troy Deeney, Mamadou Sakho
Watford, Crystal Palace and Liverpool moments brought a smile to our face over the weekend, but we’re feeling sad about Kaka…
Kaka
We woke up on Monday morning feeling rather sad after Kaka played his final game for Orlando City in their 1-0 defeat to Columbus Crew – and quite possibly the final game of his career.
The former Ballon d’Or winner was visibly emotional before and after the game, but the Brazilian has obviously made a big impression on the MLS judging by these two kids.

Troy Deeney
Football can often seem like a cold and cynical sport, but if there’s one thing to warm the cockles then it has to be this dad and his lad being absolutely made up to be given Troy Deeney’s Watford shirt.
Anyone else have something in their eye?

Mamadou Sakho
It’s hard not to feel pleased for Crystal Palace scoring their first goals and picking up their first points of the season with a 2-1 victory over reigning champions Chelsea.
And it’s hard not to be impressed by the gall of Mamadou Sakho to attempt a backheel in his own penalty area in injury-time. This could have gone so wrong, and we love it – so much so that Tom Victor has written a whole feature around it.

Nike’s Fernando Torres advert
We have no recollection of this advert being on the telly at all, but it’s brilliant.

Mauro Icardi
A hat-trick as Inter beat Milan 3-2 in the first derby of the season, with the winner coming courtesy of a 90th-minute penalty.
Milan had twice come from behind to level the scores, but Mauro Icardi showed impressive cajones to convert a controversial spot-kick.
Mauro Icardi is the first player to score a hat-trick in the Milan derby in #SerieA since Diego Milito for @Inter on 6 May 2012 #InterMilan

Diego Godin
Facing Lionel Messi as a defender is the stuff of nightmares, so Diego Godin must have relished giving the Barcelona superstar a taste of his own medicine.
We seem to have entered a parallel universe where Diego Godin and Lionel Messi have switched roles. pic.twitter.com/hWvayT0Wjj

Stephane Sessegnon
You know the one. Sunderland. West Brom. Looked good in average teams ‘cos he was one of the few technical players. Yes, him.
He did a madness for Montpellier at the weekend. Lovely stuff.
Thiago Alcantara
He’s good, isn’t he? Really good.
Alright, Thiago, fair enough. pic.twitter.com/7j9vZbUPb2

Ukranian thunderbastards
It looks like something out of FIFA 18 but we can assure you it’s real life.
A bug’s life
Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg sounded pretty exciting, with Liverpool’s Divock Origi among the scorers for the visitors.
But because we’re extremely childish, we couldn’t help but let out a big ‘waheyyyyyyyy’ when an insect walked across the camera.
Bloody hell, insects in Germany are massive. pic.twitter.com/2LBvy8CTWU

Adel Taarabt
One of football’s greatest enigmas was back amongst the goals as Genoa beat Cagliari 3-2 in Serie A on Sunday.
It’s a very good excuse to read this brilliant piece from Tom Victor on the man the dads love to hate – it’s one of our favourites we’ve published to date.
