Ten years ago today, Manchester United signed one of the best forwards in the world when they completed a deal for West Ham’s Carlos Tevez.
Tevez had developed a reputation as one of the most feared attackers in South America during spells with Boca Juniors and Corinthians before helping West Ham avoid relegation in a highly-controversial season at Upton Park.
The Argentina international enjoyed two successful years at Old Trafford – after a less-than popular debut at the ground when he was still a teenager – but he soon became at villain in the red half of Manchester when he joined fierce rivals City to become the face of the ‘Noisy Neighbours’.
Controversy seemed to follow Tevez wherever he ventured, and it was no different at City, although he still won a league title with the club on that fateful day against QPR.
Another successful spell with Juventus followed before he returned to boyhood club Boca, but he could not turn down the allure of an offer from the Chinese Super League, and now plys his trade with Shanghai Shenhua.
El Apache has always been a fascinating footballer and character – another constant throughout his career has been a number of excellent shirts, and we’ve gone back through his career to pick out some of the most memorable.
