Ranked: Which Premier League clubs have been affected most by injuries?

Quick Reads

There are a number of reasons behind Everton’s dreadful start to the season, and no doubt Ronald Koeman will point to one of the variables he can little affect: the Toffees’ injury record. Antonio Conte and Chelsea, meanwhile, can feel pretty smug.

Everton sit in 16th place in the Premier League but Koeman’s side top the injury table, with 10 absences more than any other side.  More than three-quarters of those absences are due to long-term injuries to players who have not been available to Koeman all season, most notably Seamus Coleman and Yannick Bolasie.

In contrast, Chelsea have carried over their luck with injuries from last season. Last term, they won the title with the fewest number of injuries of any Premier League club and a fixture schedule free of European distraction.

This season, they have been similarly fortunate, with only Eden Hazard missing a couple of games and Tiemoue Bakayoko sitting out the opening weekend. Danny Drinkwater has also yet to make his first appearance for the Blues, but Conte’s problems may be just beginning.

Alvaro Morata had to be withdrawn during the defeat to Manchester City due to a hamstring injury, while N’Golo Kante has sustained a similar problem while on international duty. Can Conte find a way to cope without two of his star performers this season?
