Francesco Totti’s 24-year playing career with Roma will end in the summer after it was announced he is set to hang up his boots.
Roma sporting director Monchi confirmed on Wednesday that Totti will retire at the end of the season to become a director with the Serie A club.
“I already knew that he had this agreement with the club [to become a director] and that this was going to be his last year as a player before starting as a director,” Monchi said.
“Francesco is Roma and I’m going to ask him to be close to me. Even if I can only learn one percent of what he knows, that is already a lot.”
With 616 appearances, 250 goals, a Serie A title and two Coppa Itallia triumphs, Totti’s status as a Roma icon has been undisputed for some years.
