The logic of Chelsea’s transfer policy: 11 fringe players the Blues sold at a profit

Quick Reads

Bertrand Traore has become the latest fringe player Chelsea have cashed in on after the forward joined Lyon in an £8.8million deal.

Unlike many of his peers, Traore was given a chance to impress in the Blues’ first team, catching the eye with four goals in 16 appearances in 2015-16.

The 21-year-old continued his development with a positive season on loan at Ajax last term, which encouraged Lyon to pay up for the Burkino Faso international.

Chelsea are likely to keep an eye on Traore’s performances in Ligue 1 after including a buyback option in the deal, but he is now the latest in a long line of young talents to pass through Stamford Bridge, allowing the Londoners to make a healthy profit on their potential.
