Andy Cole believes Marcus Rashford can learn a lot playing on the wing at Manchester United – and says Anthony Martial is misunderstood at Old Trafford.
Rashford is beginning to establish himself as a regular starter for Jose Mourinho’s side, playing mostly from a wide position, but Cole believes the academy graduate will eventually move back into the middle.
“I think he will eventually become a centre forward,” Cole said of Rashford.
“It’s good that he can learn from the left, because when he does become a centre forward he’ll have the full package.
“He’s played off the left and off the right at times, and when you marry all those together as a centre forward then you start to understand the game a lot more.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return to form, meanwhile, means Martial may fall back down the pecking order, but Cole hopes he sticks it out at Old Trafford.
“I’m hoping he’ll be around for a long time, because if you look at the talent he’s got it’s absolutely frightening,” he said.
“He scores goals , he creates goals, and I think he’s misunderstood but we’ve seen what he can do when he’s on form.”
