Anthony Martial only played the last 18 minutes of Manchester United‘s 2-2 draw at Stoke City on Saturday – but that was still long enough for him to tie Mame Diouf in knots.
United dropped their first Premier League points of the season at the Bet365 Stadium, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scoring either side of goals from Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku as the visitors’ defence was breached for the first time since May.
Diouf more than played his part in an impressive performance from the hosts, setting up Choupo-Moting’s opener with a fine cross from the right and largely dealing well with the pace of Rashford on United’s left flank.
However, any relief he may have felt to see the young England international withdrawn in the 72nd minute will quickly have evaporated when he see the equally quick and tricky Martial trotting on as his replacement.
He was left on the floor after some fine work from the Frenchman in the final minute of normal time, but thankfully for Diouf, it came to nothing as Stoke held on for a point.
