United and Chelsea are the two most successful clubs of the Premier League era and their clashes have been some of the most intense in the division since Roman Abramovich transformed the fortunes of the Blues.
Jose Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson had some of the most fascinating managerial battles, and the rivalry on the pitch continued as Chelsea threatened to upset the Red Devils’ dominance of English football.
But footage has resurfaced on Reddit of Lampard and Ronaldo showing the healthy side of the rivalry in a clash at Old Trafford in January 2009.
The Chelsea midfielder leaves Ronaldo on the ground with an early kick to the shins, but the Portuguese gets his own back with 20 minutes remaining.
Even so, the players exchange niceties and Lampard actually convinces the referee not to book Ronaldo. Fair play. We want more of this in the upcoming season.
