Watch: Keylor Navas atones for blunder with wonder save

Keylor Navas went from zero to hero with an eventful performance in Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Real Betis.

Los Blancos goalkeeper Navas could have been sent off early on after bringing down Darko Brasanac as the last man, and only minutes later the Costa Rican gifted the visitors the opener.

Navas seemed to have stopped Tonny Sanabria’s effort but somehow managed to spill the ball into the back of his net.

Cristiano Ronaldo equalised for the hosts before the break before Betis were reduced to 10 men when Cristiano Piccini was sent off in the second half.

Sergio Ramos then headed Madrid in front with less than 10 minutes to go, but there was still time for Navas to atone for his earlier error with an outstanding save to ensure Zinedine Zidane’s side returned to the top of La Liga.

Navas’ future at the Bernabeu is under scrutiny after numerous mistakes over the past few weeks, but Zidane came out in defence of the stopper after the victory.

“That is part of the game, there can be mistakes, it can happen to everyone,” he said.

“And in the end he saved us. All the players know how important Keylor is for us. In the end he made a save which got us the three points.”
