Marco Verratti’s attempt to use his initiative for PSG at the weekend ended in bizarre fashion as the midfielder collected one of the strangest bookings of all time.
With PSG leading 1-0 at Nantes, Verratti decided to get down on all fours and head the ball back to Kevin Trapp so the goalkeeper would be allowed to pick it up.
Trapp did not even pick the ball up, and the referee initially decided to allow play to continue, before stopping play and booking the Italy international for “trickery”, much to the dismay of the PSG players.
The Parisians did not lose their composure for long, however, and wrapped up a 2-0 win thanks to Edinson Cavani’s spectacular free-kick – which you can watch here.
