There are good goals and then there are goals like Sikiru Olatunbosun’s during Friday’s match between MFM FC and Enugu Rangers International.
Think of Dennis Bergkamp’s pirouette touch to beat the whole Newcastle defence in 2002 mixed with a bit of Paul Scholes’ clinical volley against Aston Villa in 2006 and you get Olatunbosun’s effort.
In reality, his strike was nothing like either of those goals but the same skills were on show. His instinctive first touch to flick it over the defender’s head before the exceptional technique to execute a perfect volley.
Olatunbosun picked up the ball on the left flank before flicking the ball over the right-back and smashing a left-foot volley into the opposite corner of the net.
Although the goal was at 0-0 it helped MFM claim a 2-1 victory over the defending champions and sees them to fourth in the Nigerian Premier League, only four points behind leaders Plateau United.
