Watch: Players clash & Vincent Janssen scores rare Spurs goal in Roma loss

Videos

Tottenham and Roma played out a surprisingly dramatic pre-season friendly in the International Champions Cup at the Red Bull Arena.

Any fans in attendance that were expecting a pre-season stroll were given a pleasant surprise by a game which included the two sets of players clashing, a comeback from two goals down, and two injury-time goals.

Roma led 1-0 at half-time thanks to Diego Perotti’s penalty, while former Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov picked up a yellow card for a lunge on Toby Alderweireld – lighting the touch paper for what was to come.

With 12 minutes played of the second half the players were involved in a heated exchange with Dele Alli and Kevin Strootman paying particularly close attention to each other.

Cengiz Under doubled Roma’s lead on 70 minutes after some clumsy defending from Spurs, but Harry Winks gave the Premier League outfit some hope with a scrappy goal from close range with three minutes left of normal time.

And Vincent Janssen equalised in injury time with a rare goal, converting from Georges-Kevin N’Koudou’s excellent cross.

Sadly for Spurs they couldn’t hold on, and only a minute later Marco Tumminello grabbed a winner at the death.

The Tottenham defence looked visibly gutted with conceding so late on. Who said pre-season friendlies don’t matter, eh?
