Own-goals are always embarrassing, just ask the guy in our local five-a-side team who managed to blast the perfect shot into his own net last night.
However, goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet’s own-goal for PSV Eindhoven on Sunday afternoon took the biscuit and the magnitude of the match made it even worse.
PSV lost the match 2-1 at Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord to all but end their hopes of winning the title this season.
At 1-1 in the 82nd minute it looked like being a well-earned point for PSV before Zoet’s bizarre own-goal cost his side three points.
The keeper managed to save a shot on the goal-line with Hawkeye revealing that the ball had not crossed the line and Feyenoord protests were waved away.
However, only moments later a goal was given, Zoet had scooped the ball up to his chest as he got up off the ground and accidentally took the ball over the line in the process.

With the season in its final stages, Zoet’s moment of madness is likely to be the final nail in the coffin for PSV in their pursuit of a third-straight title.
The result means PSV are now 11 points behind Feyenoord, who extended their lead over second-placed Ajax to five points.
And here’s a clearer version of the moment Zoet took the ball over the line:
