Watch: Referee forced to count steps as penalty spot gets lost in the snow

Snow has fallen across the Premier League this weekend, including in the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton, but it has also produced some brilliant sights across Europe.

In Germany, FC Koln’s match with SC Freiburg somehow went ahead despite a covering of snow and the wintery conditions continuing into the match.

Nevertheless, the pitch got marked out in pink paint and the referee dug the orange ball out of the back cupboard and the two sides went on to produce a cracker as the away side ran out 4-3 victors.

It did, however, produce an entertaining moment which took all of us back to those cold, wet and windy Sunday mornings playing on a local park pitch which hadn’t been marked or cut in weeks.

Koln were awarded a penalty in the 14th minute, and as the referee cleared the area, Sehrou Guirassy was left befuddled. He couldn’t find the penalty spot.

After the official wandered over and had a quick look himself, he chose to complete the age old process, and count out 12 steps to mark the spot.
