Chelsea chiefs will have been hugely encouraged watching on as on-loan Crystal Palace midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek made an impressive England debut against Germany.
Loftus-Cheek has been one of the few bright sparks in a difficult season for Palace and was handed a first international cap by Gareth Southgate at Wembley as England drew 0-0 with the world champions.
The 21-year-old was named man of the match, with Southgate saying afterwards: “He is capable of anything.”
BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas added: “If Gareth Southgate wanted a selection problem he’s been given one by Loftus-Cheek.”
One of Loftus-Cheek’s best moments came in the first half as he brilliantly nutmegged two Germany players before winning a free-kick with a Cruyff turn.
