Lionel Messi scored two goals and set up another in Barcelona‘s 6-1 win over Girona on Saturday – and someone has created a wonderful highlights package showing the great man’s best moments.
Girona actually took the lead at the Nou Camp when Portu fired in off both posts in the third minute, but it took Messi only a couple of minutes to conjur up an equaliser as he set up Luis Suarez with a defence-splitting through-ball.
It was Messi’s 148th assist in La Liga, a new record, and one of several incredible passes the Argentine played during a first half which many were afterwards describing as one of the finest of his career.
And on the half-hour mark he got the goal his genius deserved when he collected Suarez’s pass and, after the opportunity to score seemed to have passed, cut inside two defenders and found the net despite the best efforts of Bono between the sticks.
Messi had never previously scored against Girona, but having ended one hoodoo against Chelsea in midweek, this cut the list of teams yet to concede a goal from the icon down to 10.
Six minutes later Messi scored again when he slipped a free-kick under the wall and past Bono, but there was much more to enjoy about his performance than just his goals…
