Andy Carroll was penalised for loose elbows twice within the space of 99 seconds at Burnley on Saturday – and was duly sent off with less than 27 minutes gone.
Michail Antonio had put West Ham ahead on 19 minutes at Turf Moor when he managed to poke the ball past Clarets goalkeeper Nick Pope after a mistake from Ben Mee.
That was followed just six minutes later by Carroll’s first yellow card with a loose elbow on James Tarkowski before he was giving his marching orders for a similar challenge on Mee only 99 seconds after.
There was little suggestion that Carroll meant to hurt either of the Burnley players, but Slaven Bilic will surely have been left questioning the judgement of his striker in making the second challenge.

West Ham defended their lead well and almost held on for the three points, but Chris Wood rescued a draw for Burnley five minutes from the end when he was given room to head home a Johann Gudmundsson cross to equalise.
