Real Madrid's Carlo and Barcelona's Xavi

How La Liga is projected to finish based on PPG: Real Madrid 2nd & Barcelona 4th…

La Liga has been a brilliant spectacle this season and with things being tighter than ever around the top of the table, we have worked out how the league is currently projected to finish based on points per game.

It’s no secret that the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona came into the campaign as the title favourites, but Girona have certainly been the surprise package so far.

Michel’s side have only lost one of their opening 16 matches and have already managed to collect a whopping 41 points. Girona are currently averaging 2.56 points per game which is the equivalent of 97 points across an entire campaign.

As things stand, Real Madrid top the table, although they have played one game more than Girona at this stage. Jude Bellingham has been an excellent addition to Carlo Ancelotti’s side as he already has 13 league goals to his name.

Despite Real Madrid contending with several big injuries right now, they have still averaged an impressive 2.47 points per game which is equivalent to 94 points over a full season.

Barcelona have also had to deal with some injury setbacks this year and Xavi’s side have been somewhat off the pace, especially compared to last season.

Xavi’s side have been guilty of drawing quite a few matches so far and their points per game record of 2.05 sees them trail Real Madrid and Girona at this stage.

For context, Barcelona won La Liga last time around while averaging 2.31 points per game. As things stand, they are a little behind on that tally and are currently projected to finish the season with just 78 points.

Atletico Madrid make up the rest of the top four and they have had a pretty similar record to Barcelona up until this point. Diego Simeone’s side have taken 34 points from their first 16 matches are currently averaging 2.13 points per game.

At the opposite end of the table, things are tight around the relegation zone. While Almeria and Granada only have one win between them, the final relegation spot is extremely tight.

As things stand, only three points separate 18th and 13th in the table which highlights just how close things are. Established sides like Sevilla and Villarreal find themselves among the relegation candidates after each enduring a slow start.

We’ve gone ahead and crunched the numbers to find out how the La Liga table is currently projected to finish based on points per game and there are plenty of shocks in here.

Note: if two clubs are tied for points we have used goal difference to separate them.
