Jordan Henderson & 5 other stars linked with a Premier League return in January
The January transfer window is now in full swing and former Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United stars are all being linked with a return to the Premier League.
January is a tricky transfer window to crack as clubs will often end up paying over the odds to land their primary targets, although there are also some bargains to be had.
We’ve taken a closer look at the rumour mill and have found six stars who could join Timo Werner and return to the Premier League.
Jordan Henderson
The former Liverpool captain hasn’t been having a great time since making the move to Saudi Arabia. Al-Ettifaq have only won one of their last 12 matches and Henderson is reportedly already eyeing the exit door.
According to the Daily Mail, Henderson is keen on a return to the Premier League with Chelsea already being mentioned as a possible destination. According to Fabrizio Romano, Ajax have also shown an interest in the England international of late.
Henderson isn’t the only superstar who has struggled in Saudi Arabia this season either.

Roberto Firmino
Despite scoring a hat-trick on his debut for Al-Ahli, Firmino hasn’t been having a great time of it in Saudi Arabia. He’s failed to score in his last 16 appearances and is now reportedly eyeing up a January exit.
Sheffield United and Fulham have each been linked with the former Liverpool man who also has admirers in Turkey. We’d sure love to see Firmino back in the Premier League.
David De Gea
It does seem bizarre that De Gea has been without a club since being let go by Manchester United in the summer. The 33-year-old has knocked back several offers as he waits for the right opportunity to come along.
He has been linked with a Premier League return in recent months, with Newcastle being discussed as a potential destination to cover for the injured Nick Pope.
“I think Newcastle need a goalkeeper, and De Gea is out there,” Alan Shearer told BBC Radio 5 Live. “I know the salary would be huge but they wouldn’t have to pay a fee for him.”
Nemanja Matic
According to L’Equipe, Matic is unhappy at Rennes and is already pushing for the exit door just a few months after signing for the club.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder is said to be keen on a return to the Premier League, although it remains to be seen if any offer will be made for the 35-year-old.
Jesse Lingard
Paul Scholes recently took to Instagram to call out Lingard for his lack of footballing activity. The Manchester United legend brutally commented: “Are you just gonna f*** about in the gym or are you gonna actually play football?”
According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Everton could be an option for the 31-year-old attacking midfielder to get his career back on track.
Crysencio Summerville
The news that no Leeds United fans want to hear. Summerville has been superb in the Championship this time around and the winger is already being linked with a return to the top flight.
In December, Romano revealed that Aston Villa were keeping tabs on the 22-year-old and Newcastle have also been linked with the winger of late.
However, given Summerville’s importance to Daniel Farke’s squad, it would surely take an astronomical bid to see him sold in January.
