13 times Roy Keane has ruined a player as a pundit in 2019: Rice, Fred, Pogba…

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane was never one to suffer fools on the pitch, and he doesn’t pull any punches as a pundit either.

The Irishman is pure box office and he’s good value whenever he’s in the TV studio because he isn’t afraid to say what he really thinks, even if it might upset a few people.

We’ve looked at 12 times where Keane has humiliated a player while working as a pundit over the past year.

Declan Rice

England strolled to a 4-0 win over Kosovo in Euro 2020 qualifying but Keane still wasn’t impressed, and he gave a scathing assessment of Declan Rice’s performance in midfield.

Rice worked under Keane with Ireland before switching his international allegiance to England earlier this year, and the pundit thinks that the 20-year-old still has a lot of work to do.

Danny Rose and Serge Aurier

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson have earned a lot of praise in 2019, but it’s fair to say that Keane wasn’t as impressed with Spurs’ full backs after their 2-1 defeat at Anfield.

Dele Alli

Aurier and Rose weren’t the only Spurs’ players to face Roy Keane’s wrath after their game against Liverpool. The pundit was also very critical of Dele Alli, accusing the midfielder of becoming complacent and losing his hunger.

Fred

Keane’s analysis of Manchester United games always makes for entertaining viewing, as he doesn’t hold back in his assessment of his former club.

The Red Devils have had a few underperforming midfielders since Keane left in 2005, and he wasn’t impressed with Fred’s effort during April’s Manchester derby.

“Look at Fred for the goal. That’s not giving your all. It’s cheating. What he done was cheating, letting the guy run off him,” Keane said.

Fred (again)

At the start of this video you think that it is going to be all about Christian Eriksen, but just wait for Keane’s savage remark. When asked if Eriksen would improve Manchester United’s midfield, Keane couldn’t resist having another little dig at Fred.

Paul Pogba

It won’t surprise anybody to see Paul Pogba on this list.

Danny Rose

England suffered their first qualification defeat for ten years when they lost 2-1 against the Czech Republic and to make things even worse for the players, Keane was a pundit for ITV.

Keane was very critical of Danny Rose’s performance, but he also singled out Jordan Henderson and Declan Rice.

“Danny Rose is strolling out there, Gareth needs to give him a bit of a rollicking. I’m sure he will do.

“They’ve been really sloppy, Henderson and Rice – they might as well sit with us in the studio,” said Keane.

Harry Maguire

Maguire became the world’s most expensive defender in the summer when United spent £80million to bring him to Old Trafford.  However, Roy Keane isn’t convinced that the 26-year-old was worth all of that money.

Matteo Darmian

Keane’s little put downs are so simple yet so effective.

Nicolas Pepe

Pepe had only been playing in England for a matter of weeks when he first became the victim of Keane’s sharp tongue.

The 24-year-old signed for Arsenal in a £72 million deal from Lille in the summer, but Keane has not been impressed with the start Pepe has made at the Emirates.

“His work rate, his lack of quality, end product, his body language. He didn’t seem up for the fight tonight,” Keane added after the 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

Ross Barkley

Barkley has been a regular in Gareth Southgate’s side but Keane clearly isn’t a fan of the Chelsea midfielder.

The 25-year-old responded in the best possible way by scoring two goals and winning the man of the match award in England’s game against Bulgaria.

Paul Pogba (again)

After Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal, Keane didn’t hold back in his analysis of Paul Pogba’s performance in midfield.

“They need more from Pogba. We gave him the big build up before the game – he’s the best player, blah, blah, blah. He was disappointing. So poor,” Keane added.

Andreas Pereira and Fabinho

Manchester United’s clash with Liverpool hadn’t even kicked off when Roy Keane started criticising the players.

Keane had a famous altercation with Patrick Vieira before a game in 2005 so the sight of United and Liverpool players embracing each other in the tunnel sent the ex-midfielder into a rage.
