The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich all have high-profile players who’ve just entered the final year of their contracts.

There is likely to be a greater focus on free transfers over the next few months and a number of potential bargains could be on the cards in 2021.

We’ve taken a look at some of the biggest names around Europe’s major leagues whose deals expire at the end of 2020-21. Note: An * indicates that the club have an option to extend their contract for another year.

It’s not every day you get to sign one of the greatest footballers of all time on a free transfer, but Messi is yet to extend his Barcelona contract.

Ramos, Modric and Suarez may all be the wrong side of 30, but they still have plenty to offer at the top level.

Arkadiusz Milik – Napoli

Thaigo and Alaba have been ever-presents in the Bayern Munich starting XI over the last few years and they should still have plenty of years left in the tank.

Reyna enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season at Dortmund but can’t commit to a long-term contract until he turns 18 in November 2020.

Ligue 1

Memphis Depay – Lyon
Florian Thauvin – Marseille

Julian Draxler – PSG
Juan Bernat – PSG

After a difficult spell at Manchester United, Depay has rebuilt his career at Lyon and will have Europe’s biggest clubs vying for his signature.

Rest of Europe

Alex Telles – Porto
Moussa Marega – Porto
Taison – Shakhtar Donetsk

Telles is a perfect example of a modern-day full-back, providing 13 goals and nine assists for Porto in 2019-20.
