‘McTominay playing 4D chess’: 14 of the best reactions to Andre Onana’s penalty-saving heroics for Man Utd
Andre Onana has faced a barrage of criticism amid his difficult start to life at Manchester United, but the goalkeeper made himself the hero with a last-gasp penalty save in a sorely needed 1-0 victory over FC Copenhagen.
The Cameroon international was culpable on more than one occasion as Erik ten Hag’s side kicked off their Champions League campaign with back-to-back defeats to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, while they’d have been facing the very real possibility of a group stage exit had they failed to beat the champions of Denmark.
A Harry Maguire header midway through the second half had given United a 1-0 lead on another night in which they put in a less-than-convincing performance, but it looked as though they were set to claim a vital three points as the clock ticked into the final seconds of injury time.
But at that moment Scott McTominay was judged to have fouled Mohamed Elyounoussi. Up stepped Jordan Larsson – son of Red Devils cult hero Henrik – for the spot-kick, but it was saved by United’s No.1.
“I’m just doing my job, the most important thing is to win against a tough team,” Onana told TNT Sports in his post-match interview.
“I am happy for the victory, we did a good game and a big goal from Harry [Maguire].
“We are Manchester United. We are a big club, big players. It’s just a matter of time, now we have to continue like this. I have no doubt we will make it.”
Here’s the moment and 14 of the best reactions from social media.
