13 of best, funniest memes and responses to Conte’s extraordinary Spurs rant
It doesn’t appear that Antonio Conte will remain in his post as Tottenham manager a great deal longer after launching an extraordinary tirade at the club, the players and owner Daniel Levy.
After Spurs conceded an injury-time equaliser in a 3-3 draw at Southampton, a blow to the club’s primary remaining objective of qualifying for the Champions League, Conte questioned the mentality at the club.
The comments have widely been interpreted as a ‘please sack me’ plea to Levy. The 53-year-old coach is out of contract in the summer and the prospect of him renewing and remaining at Tottenham going into next season look close to zero.
Given Spurs will surely be looking to appoint a new coach in the coming months regardless, it may well be best for all concerns if they cut ties with Conte and move on now.
It doesn’t sound as though the Italian would be too gutted to leave, given the nature of his frustrated outbursts in recent weeks.
“I think it’s better to go into the problem, we are not a team. We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart,” Conte told reporters in the aftermath of Spurs’ disappointing draw at Southampton.
“Before today I try to hide the situation and improve the situation with words. About tactical and technical, it’s one situation, about one thing is the desire, the fire that you need to have in your eyes, your heart. You need to have this in every moment. This season compared to last, now we are worse in this aspect. When you are not a team you cannot improve. Don’t forget we played against a Sheffield United team with young players and we dropped out.”
“To understand we play for the badge. We play to make our fans proud of us. You have to have desire. The fire in your eyes. If you have this you don’t have this you don’t go out in the FA Cup. Here we are used to for a long time. The club has the responsibility for the transfer market, the coach has the responsibility. But the players, where are the players? I see only 11 players that play for themselves.”
“Now there are 10 games to go and someone thinks we can fight with this attitude, with this spirit, for what the seventh, eighth place?
“What? I am not used to fighting for this. It’s everyone’s responsibility.
“They are used to it here. They don’t play for something important yeah. They don’t want to play under pressure, they don’t want to play under stress. It is easy in this way. Tottenham’s story is this for 20 years. There is the owner but they never won something. Why?”

Never seen anything like that Antonio Conte press conference just now. 10 minutes of trying to take everyone else down with him. It was such an amazing performance you almost had to admire it.

Conte's rant – shameless playing to the gallery. He's not doing the club a favour by being there, getting the best out of the players is his responsibility. Might do it better with a midfield – this is Tottenham after all.

The story of Conte's club career is basically
1) immediately showing his managerial brilliance
2) thinking that entitles him to demands that are almost unmeetable
3) resigning, leaving or just checking outHappened at Juventus, Chelsea, Inter (to a lesser degree) and now Spurs

Conte couldn’t be more clearly begging for the sack if he went on to the top of the South Stand and took a dump on the cockerel.

It is great that conte is calling out the owners but would have been better to do it at critical points of his tenure and not simply as a means to try and get sacked, where was this during the transfer windows?

Many saying Conte should go this morning. I’d keep him right where he is and make him do his job.
