Comparing Aubameyang’s 2022 stats to Arsenal’s current forwards

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been in red hot form ever since joining Barcelona on a free transfer from Arsenal on January transfer deadline day.

He’s quickly taken to the Barcelona style of play and way of life, blending in with Xavi’s young side and becoming their talismanic striker.

His form has seen people question why Arsenal allowed him to go for free, with even the Barcelona boss confused as to how they got him.

“Auba has been a gift from heaven,” he said after Barcelona’s 4-0 victory over Osasuna in La Liga.

“He is a positive player, he has come into the dressing room very well, he adapts well to the team, he creates scoring chances, he scores, he presses, he is a privilege to train.”

That seems a far cry from the player Mikel Arteta stripped of the captaincy back towards the end of last year, citing disciplinary issues.

Responding to reports that Aubemayng had said his only issue at Arsenal had been the manager, Arteta doubled down on his decision.

“That’s his opinion, that’s what he said and you have to respect that,” he said.

“I’m extremely grateful for what Auba has done and his contribution. The way I see myself in that relationship is the solution, not the problem.”

“I’ve been the solution, 100 percent. I can look in the eye of anybody. The intention all the time is the best and not for me, it’s for the club and the team.”

So was Arteta right to let Aubameyang go? We’ve looked at his stats at Barcelona and compared them to the stats of all Arsenal’s forwards this season.
