Comparing Emile Smith Rowe’s stats to England’s other attacking mids

Quick Reads
Arsenal Emile Smith Rowe

Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe has been called up to the England squad for the first time – but is he good enough to become one of Gareth Southgate’s go-to options for the attacking midfield spots?

Smith Rowe received his first call-up for England’s important qualifying games against Albania and San Marino, getting the chance after Marcus Rashford was left out to regain fitness and James Ward-Prowse withdrew owing to illness.

The inclusion in the squad is a reward for Smith Rowe’s excellent form. In his last four games for the Gunners, the 21-year-old has three goals and an assist.

But there is a lot of competition for the three attacking midfield spots in Southgate’s usual 4-2-3-1 system. So how do Smith Rowe’s 2021-22 Premier League stats shape up when compared to the other options for those positions?

Note: stats are taken only from Premier League games in the 2021-22 season and only players to have played more than 300 league minutes are included.
