Comparing Arsenal’s record with and without Dani Ceballos in 2019-20

After spending 2019-20 at Arsenal, Dani Ceballos is set to return to the Gunners on a second season-long loan deal from Real Madrid.

Ceballos was plagued by injury problems during the first half of last season but became a key player for Mikel Arteta upon his return to fitness.

We’ve taken a closer look at Arsenal’s record with and without the midfielder in the starting XI in all competitions.

With Ceballos starting

Played: 23
Won: 13
Drawn: 5
Lost: 5

Points per game: 1.91
Win rate: 56.5%
Loss rate: 21.7%
Goals per game: 1.91
Goals against per game: 1.08

Without Ceballos starting

Played: 31
Won: 12
Drawn: 12
Lost: 7

Points per game: 1.54
Win rate: 38.7%
Loss rate: 22.6%
Goals per game: 1.58
Goals against per game: 1.29

These stats don’t take into account the quality of the opposition, the standard of Arsenal’s line-up or a selection of other factors, but they average more points per game when Ceballos starts compared to when he isn’t in the starting line-up.

Arsenal also average more goals per game and concede fewer goals per game when the Spain international plays from the start.

The stats would certainly appear to suggest that Arteta has made the right decision in bringing Ceballos back to the Emirates.
