Comparing Conor Gallagher’s 21-22 stats to Chelsea’s other midfielders
Conor Gallagher, the young Chelsea player currently on loan at Crystal Palace, has received his first call up to the senior England squad – just reward for the brilliant form he’s shown this season.
Gallagher has been impressing in Patrick Vieira’s new-look Palace side as the most advanced of the central trio in the French manager’s 4-3-3 formation. He has shown terrific all-round ability, creating, scoring and even tackling back in his own half when needed.
England boss Gareth Southgate has been watching on and has clearly been impressed, as Gallager has been called up following the withdrawals of Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Jordan Henderson and Jack Grealish.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will also have had a close eye on Gallagher’s progress and may well be thinking about how to integrate him into the Blues squad next season.
The most likely role for him is one of the two central midfield berths in Tuchel’s 3-4-3. But how do Gallagher’s stats this season compare to Chelsea’s current central midfield options? We’ve taken a look.
Note: stats are taken only from Premier League games and only players who’ve played over 250 minutes have been included.
