Comparing Jadon Sancho’s 2019-20 stats to Man Utd’s current forwards

Manchester United are reported to be leading the race to sign Jadon Sancho this summer – and there’s certainly reason for Red Devils fans to be excited by that prospect.

Sancho has gone from strength to strength since moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2017 and is now one of the hottest young prospects in Europe.

We’ve compared the 20-year-old’s Bundesliga stats from 2019-20 to the corresponding Premier League stats for United’s Marcus Rashford, Daniel James, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.

Goals and assists

Sancho has scored 14 goals in 23 Bundesliga appearances in 2019-20, his best-ever tally in a single season.

The winger has also registered 15 assists for his team-mates, leaving him with an incredible record of a goal or assist every 62.3 minutes in the league.

Of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking options, Rashford unsurprisingly leads the way with 14 goals and four assists, equating to a direct goal contribution every 104.5 minutes.

Martial has been United’s first-choice striker this season, and the Frenchman has a record of a goal or assist every 134.6 minutes (11 goals, three assists).

Greenwood’s has had an impressive breakthrough season at Old Trafford, and his five goals have come at a rate of one every 129.6 minutes.

James is the furthest behind as his three goals and six assists leaving him with an average of a goal or assist every 241.6 minutes.

Passing and attacking

It should come as no surprise that Sancho has 15 league assists this season given he creates an average of 2.6 chances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga.

That figure is more than double what any of United’s forwards have produced this season, with Rashford and Greenwood both on 1.1 and Martial and James are both on 1.0.

The Dortmund winger has a pass completion of 84.4%, meanwhile, with Greenwood not too far behind with 83.2%. That is followed by Martial (80.5%), James (78.0%) and Rashford (76.4%).

Noted for his ability to beat opposition players, Sancho completes 2.9 successful dribbles per 90 minutes at a success rate of 51.7%.

Rashford is in second place with 2.1 successful dribbles per 90 at a completion rate of 48.8% and Martial follows closely behind (1.7 at 53.1%).

Greenwood only managed 1.4 per 90, but he has the highest success rate at 73.6%. James finds himself at the bottom of the pile, completing 1.1 per 90 at the lowest success rate (44.0%).

Defensive contributions

Sancho isn’t particularly renowned for his defensive work-rate, and his average of 0.6 tackles per 90 minutes betters only Martial, who averages 0.5 per 90.

Greenwood (1.5) and James (0.8) both post higher averages than Sancho and Rashford also makes 0.6 tackles per 90.

However, Sancho does come out on top for interceptions per 90 minutes. His total (0.6) betters Rashford (0.3), Greenwood (0.3), James (0.2) and Martial (0.1).
