Comparing Jonathan David’s 2021-22 stats to Arsenal’s current forwards

Arsenal are flying high in the Premier League as the new year dawns, but Mikel Arteta still wants to improve his squad and Lille striker Jonathan David has reportedly grabbed his attention.

David is a 21-year-old, New York-born Canadian international and over the last six months has established himself as one of Europe’s hottest prospects.

After winning the French title with Lille in 2020-21, he has kicked on this year to become the club’s main man, scoring 12 goals in 19 Ligue 1 appearances in 2021-22.

He’s also managed seven goals in Canada’s 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, so it’s little wonder the big clubs are circling, including Arsenal.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal have been scouting David since he was at Gent, the club he left in 2020 to move to France. And the fact that the young Canadian is a big fan of Thierry Henry could help Arsenal as they look to persuade him to move.

But how does he compare to the players already at Mikel Arteta’s disposal? Would he considerably improve the Gunners’ attack?

We’ve had a look at his 2021-22 Ligue 1 stats and compared them to Arsenal’s current forwards’ 2021-22 Premier League stats to find out.

Note: only players who’ve played over 250 minutes are included and all statistics are for league appearances only.
