Liverpool's Thiago Alcantara celebrates after scoring in the UEFA Champions League match between Liverpool and FC Porto, November 2021.

Comparing Liverpool’s record with and without Thiago in 2021-22

After enduring a difficult start to his Liverpool career, Thiago Alcantara has now become a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Thiago developed into one of the best midfielders in the world during his seven years at Bayern Munich and helped them win the treble in 2019-20.

He then joined Liverpool in a £20million deal but injuries and illness meant that Thiago initially struggled to make the desired impact at Anfield.

While he’s also missed some games in 2021-22, the Spain international has formed a brilliant partnership with Fabinho and is impressing Klopp.

“He has great vision and can change things with his passing,” Klopp said in September. “In a closed area with his passing he is really good, and he can chip balls into each area like a golfer, actually. A good golfer. A world-class golfer! He does that without even thinking.

“I love the way he plays. It’s a complex position to be the No.8 for us. We have different skillsets and we use different skill sets from time to time when we think a particular skill set makes more sense against a particular opponent.”

We’ve taken a look at Liverpool’s record with and without Thiago in the starting line-up in all competitions in 2021-22 to see how much they improve with him and what they lose without him.
