Wolves' Ruben Neves during the Premier League match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. December 2021.

Comparing Ruben Neves’ 21-22 stats to Man Utd’s current midfielders

After impressing in Wolves’ 1-0 win over Manchester United, Ruben Neves could now be heading to Old Trafford on a permanent basis.

According to talkSPORT, United could try and sign him during the January transfer window, but Wolves would demand a fee in the region of £50million.

The Portuguese midfielder has been doing well for the Midlands club this season. He has featured in all but one of their games, often alongside compatriot Joao Moutinho, and has helped them to eighth in the Premier League, just three points off United, at the time of writing.

He offers a passing quality and deep midfield control to Bruno Lage’s side and showed that with his performance at Old Trafford in early January.

But would he be a significant upgarde on United’s current options?

We’ve compared his 2021-22 Premier League stats to the corresponding stats of United’s current central midfield options. Note: we’ve not included Donny van de Beek or Jesse Lingard due to their lack of minutes this season.
