How Erik ten Hag’s Ajax compare with Manchester United in 2021-22

After winning plaudits for his work at Ajax, Erik ten Hag is reportedly leading the race to become the next Manchester United manager.

Ten Hag has already won two Eredivisie titles with Ajax and will be hoping to lift the trophy for a third time at the end of the season as they are currently four points ahead of PSV.

The 52-year-old reportedly impressed United officials during an interview for the manager’s job but is still prioritising his work at Ajax.

“My focus is currently only on Ajax, but in football you never know,” Ten Hag recently told Sport 1 in Germany. “I don’t want to rule anything out.

“I’m currently employed here at Ajax to perform. With the cup final against Eindhoven we still have eight finals left and I need all my energy for that. Anything else would just be a distraction.

“I know that everything in football can change from one day to the next. If at some point I should decide to take the next step, I hope that people here will understand.”

While Ten Hag’s Ajax are still on course for a successful season, United have endured an underwhelming and frustrating 2021-22.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked in November and interim manager Ralf Rangnick has failed to spark an upturn in fortunes at Old Trafford. They are currently sixth in the Premier League and have also gone trophyless for the fifth consecutive season.

We’ve taken a look at United and Ajax’s league and European records in 2021-22 to see how they compare.
