Comparing Erling Haaland’s 22-23 to the PL greats: Henry, Ronaldo, Salah…
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is well on course to register the greatest individual campaign in Premier League history.
Haaland is only 22 years old and adapting to a new league and country but he’s enjoyed an astonishing debut season for Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering juggernaut. Man City are still fighting for the treble and Haaland’s firepower has been the key.
The Norway international has already matched Mohamed Salah’s record of 32 goals in a 38-game Premier League season. He needs just three more to break the overall Premier League records set by Andy Cole (1993-94) and Alan Shearer (1994-95) when the competition ran for 42 matches.
But he’s also smashing it on all fronts. He’s scored 12 goals in eight Champions League appearances and is up to 48 goals in all competitions – already a record in the Premier League era.
Man City have up to 13 games left and if Haaland can maintain his goalscoring record in the run-in, he’s set to obliterate a number of records.
“I want, I desire that he breaks all the records possible because if he scores a lot of goals that means it helps us,” Guardiola recently told reporters.
“It’s impressive and we still have eight or 10 games and he’s close to breaking all of them.
“I don’t know all the statistics I don’t know it – you inform to me. All I can say is it is impressive.”
But how does Haaland’s 2022-23 record so far compare to the absolute Premier League greats? We’ve compared his numbers in all competitions in 2022-23 to the best individual campaigns of some of the best forwards in the English game since 1992.
