Five times Timo Werner has praised Liverpool: Klopp, Keita, YNWA & more
Liverpool continue to be linked with RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner – and the player himself has only helped to add to the speculation.
Werner is one of the hottest properties in Europe thanks to his performances for Leipzig and reports of a £56million release clause suggest Jurgen Klopp is tempted to move for the Germany international to add depth to his forward options.
And Werner himself has fluttered his eyelashes in the direction of Anfield on a number of occasions already.
March 2017
Werner’s interest in joining Liverpool appears to predate their first trophy under Jurgen Klopp, with the forward telling SportBild in March 2017: “If you were allowed to play on Anfield Road and hear the fans sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ it would certainly be something special.”
December 2018
Speaking to German outlet Welt, Werner referenced former team-mate Naby Keita’s move to Anfield when discussing his own future.
“To become a world-class player, I probably have to play at club level for an even better team,” he said. “I want that to be honest. Naby Keita has not become world class with us either. He may now be with Liverpool.
“In order to become world class, you have to play in the big teams and then play big games like the final or semi-final of the Champions League.”

“I know that Liverpool is the best team at the moment in the world,” Werner told Norwegian TV channel Viasport Football after scoring the winner in RB Leipzig’s first-leg victory over Tottenham in the Champions League.
“When you’re linked with that team it makes me very proud. It’s a pleasure but I know that Liverpool have a lot of good players and I have to improve myself, to learn much more things to get on this level to play there.”

After scoring in RB Leipzig’s 5-0 rout of Schalke, Werner told Sky in Germany: “Last year, until I extended my contract, it was always Bayern Munich [that I was linked with]. Now Liverpool has come up through the media and through our game in England.
“You have there the best coach in the world with Jurgen Klopp. There are many things that would suggest that my style of play might be a good fit, but I’m not worried about it because we have so much to do with Leipzig.”

Ahead of RB Leipzig’s second-leg victory over Tottenham in the Champions League, Werner openly mused about his future in an interview with Sky Sports.
“At this time in professional soccer there are two different variations,” he said. “The first is to be part of a team like Liverpool or Manchester City. They have a good working team. The teams have also great coaches.
“But this is the question: do you want to go to that kind of team, because the situation is already that hard for each member and you want to be a part of it? That’s one point you have to look at.
“The other side are teams which need some big changes, because they just won a few big titles, but they are not able to compete on the highest level anymore. For me Manchester United is one of these teams.
“So at this point of my career I’m asking myself: do I want to be part of a new team, to build up something new, or do I want to stay at my team and make something great?”
