It’s fair to say that 2021 was one of the most important years in Lionel Messi’s life, let alone his career.

For the first time, he moved clubs, leaving Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in a move that wasn’t exactly what he wanted.

Last year he had tried and failed to make a move away from the Catalan city, but he had changed his mind and was prepared to stay with the club.

But then the financial situation at Barcelona got worse and wage caps meant the club could not re-sign him, leaving arguably the best player in the world without a club.

PSG swooped in and Messi signed for the Parisians and after a slow start is beginning to play regularly once again.

The year also saw the Argentine finally have success with his national team, lifting the Copa America as Argentina’s captain. He also claimed a record seventh Ballon d’Or.

But how does his stats in 2021 compare to other years in his career? We’ve gone through the stats to find out.
