Comparing Jadon Sancho’s 21-22 stats to England’s other forwards
After a tough start to life back in England, Jadon Sancho is finally performing well for Manchester United, and can consider himself unlucky to have missed out on the latest England squad for the upcoming international break.
England manager Gareth Southgate stated that “there are other attacking players who are ahead of him” when explaining his surprise omission, and many feel that this is unfair on the 21-year-old.
Sancho’s Manchester United team-mate Marcus Rashford was also dropped, with his poor form this season not doing himself any favours, but with the likes of Jack Grealish also coming under criticism, Sancho’s recent form arguably should have seen him receive a call-up.
Sancho was one of three players who missed a penalty in the Euro 2020 final shootout defeat to Italy, but seems to have bounced back from a low point in his career, and has been a shining light in an otherwise dismal Manchester United side.
We’ve compared his Premier League stats from this season to the other wide attackers called up ahead of him -Raheem Sterling, Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish – to see if Southgate’s explanation is totally justified.
