Comparing Jules Kounde’s 2021-22 stats to Barcelona’s centre-backs

After getting attacking reinforcements in Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona are now targeting Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde.

Kounde had looked set to join Chelsea after Sevilla reportedly accepted a £55million bid from the Premier League side.

But Barcelona, who hijacked Chelsea’s move for Raphinha, now appear to have won the race for Kounde’s signature. They have reportedly agreed personal terms with the France international and believe Sevilla will accept their offer.

“Jules Kounde’s message, his camp’s message, has been pretty clear,” Fabrizio Romano said on his latest YouTube video. “It’s a yes from Jules Kounde to this potential proposal, so he would be happy and ready to join Barcelona…

“Of course, that doesn’t mean that the deal is done because we know that there is all the part on Sevilla’s side, and Sevilla spent the whole weekend with their best sources into the club saying that the only negotiation is with Chelsea. They are still waiting for an official proposal from Barcelona…

“But at the same point, Jules Kounde is open to join Barca and Xavi Hernandez called him again and again.”

We’ve looked at how Kounde’s stats in La Liga last season stack up against the corresponding output of Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet.

Note: we’ve not included Samuel Umtiti due to a lack of first-team appearances and Oscar Mingueza has been excluded as most of his appearances last season were at right-back.

Despite the fact that Lenglet is spending the 2022-23 season on loan at Tottenham, we’ve still included his stats for context.
