Comparing Jules Kounde’s 2021-22 stats to Chelsea’s centre-backs
Chelsea are reportedly targeting Sevilla’s Jules Kounde as they look to bolster their defence this summer – but how does he compare to their other centre-backs?
Thomas Tuchel’s side had the third-best defensive record in the Premier League last season but Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have since left on free transfers.
The Blues have already signed Kalidou Koulibaly this summer and have also been linked with Manchester City’s Nathan Ake and PSG’s Presnel Kimpembe.
But they now appear to have turned their attention to Kounde, who has been a key player for Sevilla over the last three seasons and is also attracting interest from Barcelona.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea made an opening bid of €50million plus add-ons for Kounde but it was rejected by the La Liga side.
Kounde has an €80million release clause in his current contract, although Sevilla will be willing to accept a fee in the region of €65milion.
But how does the France international compare to the centre-back options currently at Tuchel’s disposal?
We’ve taken a look at how Kounde’s stats in La Liga last season stack up against the corresponding Premier League output of Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr and Trevoh Chalobah as well as Koulibaly’s Serie A stats.
Note: despite the fact that they’ve both left Chelsea, we’ve also included Rudiger and Christensen’s Premier League stats for context.
