The 4 Man Utd players currently set to leave on a free this summer
The Erik ten Hag rebuild is well underway at Old Trafford now and they could be saying goodbye to several players this summer as their contracts are set to expire in the summer.
The Red Devils have managed to get themselves back on track in the Premier League after what turned out to be a difficult start. Ten Hag has now set the new standards at the club and they are expected to be busy in the summer once again.
We’ve further looked into their squad and picked out the four players who could leave on a free transfer in the summer if their contracts aren’t renewed.
David de Gea
United do have the option to trigger a one-year extension in De Gea’s contract, but they have opted against this so far. With Ten Hag keen on introducing a new wage cap, the Spaniard is unlikely to get a new deal at his current £375,000 per week salary.
The club do seem willing to negotiate a new deal with the shot-stopper, but at reduced terms. “I’m very relaxed,” De Gea said when asked about his contract situation. “I just focus on training, perform as best as I can. But, for sure, it’s going to end in a good way.
“I hope (to stay for the rest of my career). I was saying this is my club, I’ve been here many, many years and it’s a huge honour to be here and I’m so happy here.”

Axel Tuanzebe
The 25-year-old last played for Manchester United during their 2021 Europa League final. He spent the second half of last season on loan with Napoli but only made two appearances during his spell there.
He’s been kept out of action all season so far with an injury which he sustained over the summer and joined Stoke City on loan until the end of 2022-23.
Tuanzebe looks more than likely to depart on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Phil Jones
Jones has made over 200 appearances for the Red Devils, but he has been out of the limelight for the past few years now. The defender made his return to action in January last year against Wolves after almost two years without playing.
Ten Hag left Jones out of his 25-man squad at the start of the season and his 12-year stay at Old Trafford is more than likely going to come to an end this summer.
Phil Jones hadn't played for United since January 2020.

Tom Heaton
The former England goalkeeper was signed by Manchester United in the summer of 2021 to back up De Gea and Dean Henderson. Since his arrival, Heaton has only featured in two matches, with his latest performance coming in United’s 3-0 victory over Charlton.
The club does hold the option of extending his contract by a further year. Following his clean sheet against Charlton he told the official club website, “Opportunities have been difficult to come by.
“It was slightly frustrating not to play in the previous round, I had a little injury – bad timing – and Martin [Dubravka] played well in that game. But, thankfully, I was on the teamsheet tonight and, hopefully, there will be more to come.”
