Comparing Tyrell Malacia’s 2021-22 stats to Man Utd’s current left-backs

Manchester United look to be closing in on their first signing of the summer after agreeing on a deal for Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia.

Malacia came through the Feyenoord academy and has made another 135 appearances for the club since being handed his first-team debut in December 2017.

The left-back helped Feyenoord reach the UEFA Europa Conference League final in 2021-22 and was later named in the competition’s Team of the Season.

He initially looked set to join Lyon this summer as the two clubs agreed on a deal and United were reportedly prioritising a move for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

But Erik ten Hag heavily scouted the 22-year-old during his time at Ajax and United have now hijacked the deal, agreeing to pay Feyenoord an initial £13million and a potential £1.7million in add-ons.

“The agreement with Man United is there,” Feyenoord director Frank Arnesen confirmed in an interview with 1908NL. “We are now waiting for Tyrell.

“If Malacia says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent.”

United do already have three left-backs at the club in Luke Shaw, Alex Telles and then Brandon Williams, who spent last season on loan at Norwich City.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Malacia will provide competition for Shaw while Telles and Williams are both free to leave Old Trafford.

We’ve compared his Eredivisie stats from 2021-22 to the corresponding Premier League stats for Shaw, Telles and Williams.
