One crazy stat to sum up each Premier League club’s 22-23 season

The 2022-23 Premier League season has not disappointed so far and as we head to the climax of the campaign we’ve picked out one stat to sum up each club’s season.

Manchester City took a huge step towards the Premier League title with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Arsenal. Despite the Gunners leading the way for the majority of the season, Pep Guardiola’s side are now waiting to pounce.

Elsewhere in the table, the race for the top four has been enthralling. Erik ten Hag has lifted things at Manchester United and Eddie Howe has his side on track for a top-four finish.

The likes of Brighton, Fulham and Brentford can also be proud of their seasons so far as they have punched above their weight all year round.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea have fallen below expectations this year as they are way behind the point tallies they each achieved last time around.

Perhaps the most entertaining part of this season has been the relegation battle. With several weeks to go, plenty of clubs are still in danger of the drop as it is so close.

We’ve gone through each Premier League club’s season and picked out one crazy stat which sums up how they have performed this year.

– Arsenal have averaged 2.27 points per game this season. At their current rate they will finish the season with 86 points which would be their best points return since the 2003-04 invincible season.

– Aston Villa became the first team in Premier League history to score in their first 20 games under a new head coach. Unai Emery really is working wonders at Villa Park right now.

– Bournemouth are the only side in the Premier League yet to be awarded a penalty. In contrast to that, they have given away seven penalties this season, the second most in the league.

– Brentford have already surpassed their points tally from last season, making this campaign their most successful in the Premier League era.

– Brighton have accumulated a non-penalty xG of 52.8, which is the fourth-highest in the league and is considerably higher than the NPxG they managed in the entirety of last season (40.7).

– Chelsea have only collected 39 points from 32 matches so far, their lowest-ever tally at this stage in the 21st Century. As things stand they are projected to finish the season with just 46 points.

– Crystal Palace would be two points from the bottom of the table if games were based on the first half. In fairness to the Eagles, they have picked up more points from losing positions (20) than any other side.

– Everton have had 14 different goalscorers in the league this year, but no player is yet to score more than four goals. They have also been the biggest xG underperformers this season.

– Fulham have 19 more points at this stage of the season than they did in their last Premier League campaign in 2020-21.

– Leeds have conceded the most goals from open play (49). They have also conceded four or more goals on five separate occasions this season.

– Leicester have dropped 22 points from winning positions, the most in the league. If games were based on the first half only, the Foxes would be 12th in the table right now.

– Liverpool have 20 fewer points at this stage than they did last season. Jurgen Klopp’s side have also been caught offside 72 times, the most of any Premier League side.

– Manchester City are the only team in Europe’s top five leagues who are projected to score 100 league goals this season. You can call that the Erling Haaland effect.

– Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 14 league matches at Old Trafford, the longest unbeaten run of any side at home in the league this season.

– Newcastle are on track to concede just 30 goals this season which is less than half of the goals they conceded last season. Nick Pope and Co have been on top form all season.

– Nottingham Forest have only picked up six points on the road this season. In contrast to this, they have picked up 24 points in home matches which is more than the likes of Chelsea and West Ham.

– Southampton have accumulated the lowest xG in the Premier League. Their lack of firepower has been a leading cause in their struggle this year.

– Tottenham have been more reliant on Harry Kane than ever. The England captain has scored 40% of their league goals, which is the largest overall contribution by any player this season.

– West Ham have struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio for example have scored 13 less goals between them compared to last season.

– Wolves have been on a decent run under Julen Lopetegui. If the season had started when the Spanish manager was appointed, they would currently be in the top half of the table.
