How many penalties each Premier League club has been awarded since VAR

Quick Reads

While VAR was supposed to correct refereeing mistakes, plenty of controversy continues to surround penalty decisions.

It’s often argued that the traditional ‘big six’ get decisions in their favour and teams towards the bottom of the Premier League don’t get the rub of the green from officials.

We’ve looked at which teams have been awarded the most penalties in the Premier League since VAR was introduced ahead of 2019-20.

Speaking after Manchester United were denied a spot-kick against Chelsea, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “It was a penalty. I’m a bit concerned we don’t get those penalties after noises were made about us getting penalties.”

But the Red Devils have received more Premier League penalties than any other side since the start of last season, averaging a penalty every 2.9 games.

Having received just four penalties in their last 64 Premier League games, Burnley boss Sean Dyche probably feels like his side are hard done by.
