Ranking the top 10 goalscorers in Europe by their conversion rate

Looking at the top scorers in Europe’s top five leagues in 2022-23 and the list is filled with plenty of the usual suspects – but of those, who has been the most clinical?

These strikers have delivered the good more often than not this year, but which of them have been the most clinical? You can check out the top 10 scorers list here.

We have then ranked those 10 players by their goal conversion rate. This stat takes into account how many shots it takes for these strikers to convert them into goals.

10. Folarin Balogun – 20%

The Arsenal loanee has had a terrific loan spell in France, scoring 21 goals for Reims. While his overall tally is impressive, his conversion rate of 20% is only good enough to rank him 10th on this list.

With that being said, we can’t wait to see what’s next for the promising 21-year-old.

=8. Lautaro Martinez – 21%

Inter Milan fell short to Napoli in Serie A, but Martinez was as prolific as ever. Matching his best-ever scoring tally from 2021-22, the Argentine notched 21 league goals.

Boasting a conversion rate of 21%, he averaged a league goal every 122 minutes. Inter will be hoping for some more Martinez magic in the upcoming Champions League final.

=8. Robert Lewandowski – 21%

Another season, another prolific year for Lewandowski. We’ve become accustomed to his goalscoring godliness at this point. Having scored 23 goals this season, that’s now the eighth consecutive season he’s hit more than 20 league goals.

His conversion rate of 21% might not rank him as the most prolific forward this season, but he is certainly still considered as one of the deadliest marksmen in Europe.

7. Lois Openda – 24%

Thanks to Openda, Lens pushed PSG all the way to the Ligue 1 title this year. With the Belgian forward now set for a move to RB Leipzig, we can’t wait to see how he fares in the Bundesliga.

6. Victor Osimhen – 25%

Averaging a goal every 99 minutes this season, Osimhen has enjoyed his best scoring season to date. Helping Napoli to their first Serie A title since 1989–90.

His impressive conversion rate of 25% will also make him a highly desirable player in this summer’s transfer window. Chelsea and Manchester United have each been linked with the Napoli man.

5. Kylian Mbappe – 26%

After claiming his fifth consecutive Ligue 1 Golden Boot, were almost out of superlatives to describe Mbappe. The rapid French forward can do it all and along with being an expert finisher, he is also an elite creator.

The trio of Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi was fun while it lasted, but PSG are now set to embark on a squad rebuild with Mbappe at the centre of the new project.

4. Jonathan David – 27%

The Lille forward has enjoyed his best goalscoring season to date. With 24 goals and an impressive conversion rate of 27%, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some top clubs interested in him this summer.

3. Harry Kane – 30%

Scoring 30 league goals and not winning the Golden Boot almost feels like a crime. Despite Tottenham’s struggles during the season, Kane has been at his clinical best.

Converting 30% of his shots, few defenders have managed to contain the England skipper this season. With his contract set to expire in 2024, his future is now up in the air.

2. Alexandre Lacazette – 31%

Along with being one of Europe’s top scorers this season, Lacazette also ranks as the second most clinical. The turnaround in form from the former Arsenal man has been nothing short of spectacular.

Considering he scored just four league goals during his final season with the Gunners, this year has been a whirlwind for him. With 27 goals and a 31% conversion rate, it’s been a campaign to remember for the Lyon forward.

1. Erling Haaland – 34%

Is there anything this guy can’t do? We have a feeling that the Norwegian wonder will be topping these sorts of charts for the foreseeable future.
