The 109 PL players out of contract in 2018: Sanchez, Ozil, Mata, Can…
It is well documented that Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil have only a year left on their Arsenal contracts, but the likes of Manchester United, Everton and Liverpool also have big-name players in the last 12 months of their deals.
Premier League clubs are firmly focused on their recruitment drives for 2017, but once the transfer deadline passes, there is plenty of work to be done to secure the long-term futures of some of the divisions biggest stars.
Sanchez and Ozil are the highest-profile players who are a year away from being free agents, but Arsenal have plenty more on their plate, with the future of several other first-teamers also up in the air.
Like Arsenal, Manchester United have nine players whose commitment extends only until July, though Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are likely to be concerns, with the club holding the option of keeping three other big names for an extra year if they wish.
Crystal Palace are the most exposed club, with a dozen of their pros able to walk away next summer, while Premier League newcomers Brighton have decisions to make over 11 of their players.
Tottenham’s policy of tying down their players to long-term contracts has protected them for a year, with only back-up goalkeeper Michel Vorm now in the final season of his agreement with the club.
Liverpool are similarly protected, though Emre Can’s status as a free agent next July is attracting the likes of Juventus, who believe there could be a bargain to be had this summer.
