Remembering Leeds’ glorious run to the UCL semis – The Broken Metatarsal

Leeds United fans will forever remember the club’s run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2001 – and three of them got the chance to talk about it in the second episode of our new 2000s podcast, The Broken Metatarsal.

Every Thursday on The Broken Metatarsal, host Rich Williams and Planet Football Editor Mark Holmes will be joined by a celebrity guest and a footballer to discuss the most memorable moments of a brilliant decade.

Comedian, Britain’s Got Talent finalist and Leeds fan Micky P joins Rich, Mark and Deputy Editor Rob Conlon in this episode, while Dominic Matteo is on the phone to discuss his role in the team’s incredible achievement that 2000-01 season.

Among loving words for the likes of Lee Bowyer and Alan Smith are stories including Micky on his connection with those dreaded words ‘broken metatarsal’, Rich ending a holiday romance to watch the Lazio game and Mark Viduka’s obsession with the lasagna in Milan.

As we will do every week, we finish the episode with a game of Football Fact or Fiction in which Rich tries to guess which of the three unlikely stories about Leeds that season is in fact true.
