The top 10 goalscorers across world football in 2023: Ronaldo above Kane & Mbappe…
Stars from Manchester City, PSG and Bayern Munich all make their way into the top 10 goalscorers chart across world football for the calendar year of 2023.
With just a few days to go until the end of the year, things are as tight as ever around the goalscoring charts and a few familiar make an appearance in this list.
We’ve totted up every single goal that has been scored across world football in 2023, club and international goals included and have compiled a list of the top 10 scores.
10. Lautaro Martinez – 37 goals
Despite failing to score for Argentina all year, Martinez has been in prolific form for Inter Milan. The 27-year-old currently leads the race for the Serie A Golden Boot with 15 goals during this season alone.
Following his goal against Lazio, Martinez set a new record with the most Serie A goals for Inter in a calendar year since 2000, edging out Diego Milito who previously held the record.

9. Barnabas Varga – 38 goals
Prior to last season, Varga had never scored more than 15 goals across an entire season. However, the Hungarian forward has been more prolific than ever throughout 2023.
Varga impressed with Paks last season and managed to earn a move to Hungarian champions Ferencvarosi TC on the back of his prolific spell. With 38 goals in 2023 so far, Verga is deserving of a place on this illustrious list.
8. Santiago Gimenez – 39 goals
Since making the switch to Feyenoord in the summer of 2022, Gimenez has been in seriously prolific form. He’s even been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea of late thanks to his impressive goalscoring return.
Of the 39 goals Gimenez has scored this year, 37 of them have been at club level while the other two were scored for Mexico. It’s surely only a matter of time before he gets himself a blockbuster move.
=5. Romelu Lukaku – 40 goals
Despite an injury-hit campaign last time around, Lukaku now ranks as one of the most prolific players in the world. The Belgian striker has already scored 13 goals this season for Roma, although a large chunk of his goal tally has come on the international stage.
Of the 40 goals Lukaku has scored in 2023, 39 per cent of them have come for Belgium. The 30-year-old scored more goals than any other player during the Euro 2024 qualification process as he regularly turns it on for his country.
=5. Denis Bouanga – 40 goals
LAFC made it all the way to the MLS Cup final and it was largely thanks to the goals of Bouanga. The former Saint-Etienne winger has been unplayable in MLS this year, scoring a whopping 38 goals across all competitions at club level.
He managed to bag a goal for himself in the final too, although he ended up on the losing side as Columbus Crew claimed a tight 2-1 victory. Bouanga has also scored a couple of goals on the international stage for Gabon, taking his overall tally to 40.

=5. German Cano – 40 goals
While the top goalscorers chart of 2023 is dominated by players currently playing in Europe, Fluminense forward Cano manages to break that trend.
The experienced 35-year-old has scored over 280 career goals and he isn’t showing any signs of slowing down soon. Cano recently hit the peak of his career by winning the Copa Libertadores with Fluminense. Argentina, call him up.
4. Erling Haaland – 50 goals
The Norwegian robot broke all sorts of goalscoring records during his debut season in the Premier League and he also played an instrumental role in a historic treble-winning campaign.
From a goalscoring point of view, Haaland has virtually no weaknesses. The Man City forward has scored 50 goals and counting in 2023 so far, which puts him within touching distance of the top of our list.
=2. Kylian Mbappe – 52 goals
With Lionel Messi and Neymar now out of the picture at PSG, Mbappe is very much the main man in the French capital these days. Arguably the best player in the world right now, the 24-year-old has scored 52 goals in 2023 along with providing plenty of assists too.
Mbappe has now won five consecutive Ligue 1 Golden Boots and he is currently on track to win his sixth. When he’s at his very best, not many defenders can lay a glove on him.

=2. Harry Kane – 52 goals
Kane’s departure from Tottenham this summer seemed inevitable and the England skipper hasn’t looked back since signing for Bayern Munich. His latest brace against VfB Stuttgart sent Kane to the top of the list with a whopping 52 goals in 2023.
Along with his prolific form at club level, Kane continues to deliver the goods on the international stage. Nine of his 52 goals in 2023 were scored for England, while the remaining 43 were scored for a combination of Tottenham and Bayern Munich, where he’s absolutely flying.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo – 53 goals
He might be playing out in Saudi Arabia these days, but the fact that a 38-year-old Ronaldo tops the list for most goals scored in 2023 is insane.
While most footballers are winding down in their late thirties, CR7 still seems hungrier than ever. He looks after his body better than anyone else in the sport and it’s no wonder he’s managed to stand the test of time.
Ronaldo recently reclaimed the top spot with a brace for Al-Nassr against Al-Ittihad. Sometimes you just have to stand back and applaud greatness.
