Quick Reads

Bruno Fernandes has been a revelation at Manchester United, establishing himself as one of the most creative players in Europe.

Fernandes joined United from Sporting Lisbon in a £47million deal in January 2020, makings his league debut against Wolves on February 1.

We’ve taken a closer look at the five players with the most Premier League assists since that date.

11= Jamie Vardy – 8 assists

While Vardy is renowned for his goalscoring, the Leicester City striker has also showcased his creativity in recent seasons.

He got one assist towards the end of last season and has seven assists in 2020-21, including two in their 5-0 win over Sheffield United in March 2021.

11= Lucas Digne – 8 assists

Since joining Everton from Barcelona in 2018, Digne has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old recorded two league assists in the final few weeks of 2019-20 and has followed that up with six in 20 appearances this season.

11= Willian – 8 assists

Be honest, you weren’t expecting to see Willian on this list were you?

Despite being a much-maligned figure at Arsenal, the Brazil international has registered five Premier League assists this season, more than any other Gunners player.

He also provided three assists in his final nine Premier League appearances for Chelsea in 2019-20.

8. Roberto Firmino – 9 assists

While Firmino has been criticised for his poor goal return in recent months, he continues to set up goals for his Liverpool team-mates.

The striker produced seven Premier League assists in 2020, including a hat-trick of assists against Southampton on the same day as Fernandes’ debut, and currently has two in 2021.

7. Marcus Rashford – 10 assists

With seven assists in 30 Premier League appearances in 2020-21, Rashford has already equalled his tally from 2019-20.

Three of Rashford’s seven league assists last season also came after Fernandes’ debut.

Get him on the plane, Gareth.

6= Andy Robertson – 11 assists

Roberton ended Liverpool’s title-winning campaign in excellent form, setting up six goals in his final 10 Premier League games in 2019-20.

The Scotland international has to be the only Liverpool defender not to pick up an injury this season, and he’s produced five assists for his team-mates.

4. Son Heung Min – 12 assists

Having registered three assists in his final eight league games in 2019-20, Son now has nine in 29 appearances for Tottenham this season.

If he keeps playing alongside Harry Kane, that tally is only going to increase.

2. Kevin De Bruyne – 16 assists

De Bruyne equalled Thierry Henry’s record of 20 Premier League assists in a season in 2019-20, with five of those coming after Fernades’ debut.

The Belgium international hasn’t been quite as prolific at creating goals this campaign but still has 11 assists with seven league games remaining.
