13 things we loved this weekend: Antony, Messi, Keane, Robben…

Quick Reads
Manchester United's Antony (left) shakes hands with Casemiro at the end of the Premier League match at the City Ground, Nottingham. Picture date: Sunday April 16, 2023.

We’re one set of matches closer to the end of the season and there was another major twist in the Premier League title race as Arsenal let a two-goal lead slip for the second match running.

Elsewhere, in Germany both Bayern and Dortmund dropped points to keep things neck-and-neck at the Bundesliga summit, while there were some outstanding moments in La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1.

Here are our personal highlights from a great weekend of football.

Antony

2023’s best new meme template.

Ollie Watkins

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are on fire.

Xavi

We miss watching the maestro.

Lionel Messi

The sexiest one-two you’ll see all season.

Middlesbrough

Michael Carrick has Boro playing some lovely stuff.

Brighton

The least expensively-assembled squad in the league away to the most expensively assembled. Miraculous stuff.

Gary Neville & Roy Keane

Appointment viewing.

These physios

Evan Ferguson is 6’1″ and a big unit himself. Hench.

Arjen Robben

One player that you can’t imagine with the post-retirement timber.

Jese

Remember him!?

Cesar Montes

A relatively meaningless goal. But what a relatively meaningless goal.

Amahl Pellegrino

You won’t see a better goal anywhere this weekend. Take a bow, son.

This commentator

We’ve all been him. Wonderfully bitter stuff.
