12 things we loved this weekend: Messi, Mainoo, Mudryk, Postecoglou…
It might be a few weeks yet before the 2022-23 season gets underway, but the Women’s World Cup is here and there was more than enough action over the weekend to satisfy our appetite for now.
Things have got off to a solid start out in Australia and New Zealand, while elsewhere a certain icon lit things up on his MLS debut, and various Premier League clubs are getting into the swing of pre-season around the world.
Here are 12 of our favourite moments from the weekend.
Lionel Messi
Just ridiculous.

Sergio Busquets
Beautiful football.
Don't let Messi's debut distract you from the fact that Sergio Busquets was sensational in his debut as well 👏 (via @MLS) pic.twitter.com/032vho4dD8

Harry Wilson
We’re already big fans of ref cam.
It's not everyday you see a goal from the referee's point of view…

Jude Bellingham
He looks right at home already.
This play is what Real Madrid lacked when Jude Bellingham wasn't here, his link up play is something that will help break low blocks in La Liga.
He's so silky at them & Rodrygo & Arda can only help him shine with this attribute. pic.twitter.com/7YlVzDhEYt

Hinata Miyazawa
Silky football.
A 5-0 victory meant #JPN secured the highest-scoring win at the #FIFAWWC 2023 so far 🤩

Mary Earps
England’s opener was an unexpected nail-biter.

Ange Postecoglou
You tell him, Ange.
A German journalist really went all the way to Thailand to wind up Ange Postecoglou. It didn't end well 💀
"Did you get a good laugh? Came a long way for that. Thank you!"
