Top 7 most famous female footballers on Instagram: Lehmann…
The women’s game is booming in popularity right now and you only have to look at the most followed female football stars on Instagram to see just how big the sport is.
Last year El Clasico set a new record for women’s attendance with a crowd of over 91,000 packed into Camp Nou and the 2023 Women’s World Cup is expected to break records this year.
We’ve taken a look at the biggest football stars right now and have listed the top seven most-followed female footballers on Instagram in 2023.
7. Megan Rapinoe – 2.1million followers
The American winger is a household name these days and is a regular on social media. The 2019 Ballon d’Or Feminin winner has enjoyed a career in the gane which has spanned over 16 years.
She is a two-time World Cup winner with the United States and has scored 63 goals for her country in 199 games. At 38-years-old she is still going strong for OL Reign.

6. Norma Palafox – 2.2million followers
The Mexican superstar has more followers on Instagram than Carlos Vela. Still just 24 years old, the forward is still in the early years of her career.
After showing some promise in her early years, she took a break from football in 2019 to compete in a reality show. She blew up around the time she was on TV and has since returned to football and is now playing for Cruz Azul.
5. Marta – 2.6million followers
Regarded by many as the GOAT female footballer, Marta was always going to make the list. She is Brazil’s all-time women’s scorer with 115 goals and she has been just as prolific at club level.
Marta has enjoyed a stellar career in the game which has spanned over two decades. Her passion for the game is absolutely infectious and it’s no wonder she is regarded so highly in Brazil and around the world.

Putellas boasts an impressive 2.9million followers on Instagram and she has several posts with well over 1million likes. The Barcelona midfielder will be hoping for a strong World Cup campaign this year.
2. Alex Morgan – 10.1million followers
Morgan is one of the most recognisable faces in the female game and she now has over 10million followers on Instagram. The 34-year-old has spent most of her playing days in the United States, but she did enjoy short stints in France and England too.
Morgan held the crown as the most followed female footballer for quite some time, but she has recently been pipped to the number one spot.
1. Alisha Lehmann – 13.7million followers
The Aston Villa forward has exploded on social media recently and is now one of the most recognisable faces in the female game. She is often active on social media and her posts regularly get over 500,000 likes.
The Swiss international spoke to talkSPORT earlier this year regarding her huge social media following, “Some people just see Instagram and social media and don’t even know I actually play football.
“When I don’t post a football picture for a week, people say, ‘Oh, she doesn’t even play.’
I think sometimes it’s a bit hard because obviously I play like I train every day, like everyone else, like I play every weekend and sometimes it’s hard because they make a picture of you.
“I’m a proper footballer. I work hard every day. I want to be the best version of myself in football and that’s my first priority in life.”
